Le temps n'a pas de nom

"When I was shooting Treat, my last film, a Lapp man said to me: "So you've got a watch - throw it away! Up here we live by Lappish time." I then got an idea for a film I wanted to make. A film about time, or more accurately, about time that doesn't exist. A film which would be called Tiden har inget namn.

Indeed, Tiden har inget namn is a film in which the notion of time has almost completely disappeared. In poetic images Jarl shows us the daily routine of a Swedish farmer on the Baltic and lets us feel his slow life-rhythm. At the same time, the film is a striking impression of an outdated life-style due to modern agriculture. Since Stefan Jarl is a socially committed film maker signs of protest can be found in all of his films, as is the case in this film, when the farmer tells about the drawbacks of modern agriculture.
