Jean-Christophe Averty lives with his collections. One might say that his collections go with him, or that they are his life support. To the untrained eye, it might all seem like one big clutter of objects that spill from room to room : books, posters, artefacts, newspapers, magazines, records, film cans, video reels, tapes. A nebula of the memory in constant, spectacular expansion. When he describes his collector's passion, we realize it's his life and his work that he's telling us about. Television often tends to show collectors as pointless maniacs who pile up objects nobody needs. But there is not a museum that was not started as a private passion. Averty's collection has nourished his creative work in television and radio, as extracts from his work will help demonstrate. In fact Averty's home collection is an allegory of his mind, one of the most fertile ever to bless television...
