Feast Of Friends - The Doors

Feast Of Friends is a 40-minute documentary produced by and about The Doors. The film was done in a cinéma vérité style and features footage of the group filmed during a five-month period from mid-April to early September 1968, spanning two countries, nine states, and more than twenty cities. Jim Morrison called it both "a poetic documentary" and "a fictional documentary."
The idea for the film first came from Paul Ferrara, The Doors' official photographer and a UCLA film school classmate of both Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek. He pitched the concept of filming the band in concert and on the road in early 1968, and The Doors agreed to fund the project. Ferrara did much of the filming himself while his friend Babe Hill captured location sound using a handheld microphone connected to a portable Nagra reel-to-reel recorder.
As a result of this film project, more than a dozen Doors concerts from 1968 were partially filmed by Ferrara with only one, at the Hollywood Bowl, filmed in its entirety with professional audio. All the other shows were filmed without sound and the only available audio was captured by Babe Hill's equipment. It's believed that Hill recorded a few songs in concert but not entire shows. To date, no songs Hill recorded in concert have ever been released, likely due to being incomplete and of poor sound quality.
