Résumé

Piégée dans "la plus grande prison à ciel ouvert au monde" et soumise à la loi de la guerre, la nouvelle génération est irrésistiblement attirée par les rivages. Révoltés par l’occupation et par l’impasse politique, les surfeurs de Gaza recouvrent, au coeur des vagues de la Méditerranée, leurs libertés personnelles.

In the isolated Gaza Strip, life is often a struggle. But even though the landscape is scarred by war, the Mediterranean Sea glistens in the sun. The surfers of Gaza never cease to desire the gentle rock of its waves, for it gives them a taste of freedom.
One of these surfers is Sabah, a 15-year-old girl whose father taught her to surf even though it was against the customs of the community. Another is Ibrahim, who dreams of opening a surf club on the shores of Gaza and, with a little help from an American friend, manages to travel to Hawaii for research and inspiration. But it is easy to lose one’s rebellious spirit when nothing ever seems to change. This can be seen in the weathered features of the 42-year-old Abu Jayab, a fisherman and a veteran surfer. But when riding the waves, even he manages to forget about the grim reality, if only for a moment.
This documentary introduces the viewers to life on the strip of land that has been called the world’s largest open-air prison. Simultaneously, however, Gaza Surf Club also offers eye candy for all lovers of surf films.
