Résumé
Lorsque Victoria Mapplebeck apprend qu’elle est atteinte du cancer du sein, elle commence à documenter son quotidien, du diagnostic jusqu’à sa guérison dépeignant sans concession le traitement de ce cancer, passant par les larmes, le sang et la sueur. Ce portrait rappelle la personne derrière le diagnostic.
When Victoria Mapplebeck was diagnosed with breast cancer, she decided to record each step of her journey from diagnosis to recovery. Seeing her cancer cells under a microscope inspired Mapplebeck to work with 3D artists to bring to life the medical imaging she collected throughout her treatment. The lynchpin of this VR piece is a nine-minute, 360-degree single take sequence that reconstructs Victoria’s final session of radiotherapy. Moving beyond sentimentality and survivor/victim binaries, The Waiting Room puts under the microscope what lies within or beyond our control when our bodies fail us.
