Résumé

The Cinephiles are retired women from Spain, Uruguay and Argentina who go to the movies every day. For them, films are not only a support, but also a safe and recurrent event in the days that go by and the cinema is a place where they can ease their loneliness and forget the passage of time. Like a drop of water, fiction slaps their lives, leaving a trace on their memory.

""I would start with silent images of "the cinephiles", then comes the main title and you appear explaining: Where are these ladies going? Shall we follow them?", suggests one of her interviewees to Álvarez. Then she clarifies that it would be a deliberate plagiarism of And the Ship Sails On, necessary "to generate a kind of intrigue; if not, what is this? Women going to the movies? What is that?". That is Las Cinéphilas: a documentary about women who go to the movies that does not need suspense or plagiarism to be bigger than life. Instead of tricks, here there is cinematic rigor, serenity and certainty; there is a patience that yields juicy fruits and there are, above all, emotions that travel from the screen to people, from cinema to life, back and forth. Although the director has ignored them all, the "cinephiles", so kind but so demanding, must be very proud of her film."
