When evoking schoolboy life, what do we remember ? The teasing of chums, a failed dictation, getting a detention due to talking in class. The headmaster himself sees how the building has been transformed, remembers the inspector...
A secondary school story is about the Stanislas of Wissembourg secondary school. Il has changed much since it was founded at the time of Napoléon and it has been through, as in the whole of Alsace, three Franco-German wars.
In the film we see some ex-pupils returning to visit the school. These are elders from before the Second World War and some from May 68. It also focuses on the present pupils, some whom are studious whilst others are undisciplined, just as the elders were. We see them mucking around during class and debating over the frontiers, the pros and cons of nostalgia and the job of a teacher.
A documentary which is composed of stories and funny, tender testimonies, some archives and also the everyday life of the nineties in order to look behind the apparently austere façade of the secondary school.
