Was Bleibt

The documentary What Remains follows 88-year-old Ilse as she tries to cope with the challenges of her everyday-life in her apartment on the outskirts of Stuttgart in South West Germany.
Her daughter and her son-in-law are an enormous help to her. They visit her almost every day, help her with the groceries and clean her apartment.
Although she seems rather spry, old age has left its mark. However, despite her physical problems she is an incredibly warm, happy and positive person. Ilse's days always follow the same pattern. As a symbolic representation of this
pattern we see a reoccurring image of her clock, which dictates the rhythm of the film.
This rhythm might seem slow but it fits they way Ilse moves and acts so that the audience can't help but tune in to her slow rhythm.
