"On 2 October 2018, the exiled Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi went into his country's consulate in Istanbul to organise the papers for his wedding. He never came out again. The investigation of this revolting but carefully orchestrated murder of one of the country's most critical voices is only the tragic beginning of a film, which paints a bleak picture of digital troll armies, surveillance, resistance – and not least of the unique human being who dedicated and sacrificed his life to freedom of speech in the Middle East. Khashoggi was once a part of the inner circle of the Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman, but his well-founded and increasingly critical articles made him fall out of favour with the royal court. As an international voice with insider knowledge, he increasingly became a thorn in the side of the regime. Right until the very end. Khashoggi's family, friends and colleagues contribute to a story that is larger and branches out in more ways than we care for."
