Henri Pardo's fascinating film is shot in lustrous monochrome and employs stunning archive footage. It focuses on the period the Georgia-born player was contracted to the minor-league Montreal Royals, prior to his rapid ascent and stellar career in the US. Constructed as a direct address to the baseball star, the film also explores life in Montreal's Black community of Little Burgundy, once known as the "Harlem of the North". Viewed through the prism of past and present, it contemplates both the legacy of Robinson’s achievements and the impact of the Black Lives Matter movement today.
