Histórias Selvagens

Montemor-o-Velho, Beira Litoral. The floods of the Mondego river are the scourge of life for this population. Ti Bastião and Ti Lobina, a couple of tenant farmers who breed cattle for a living - in partnership with the owner of the animals - decide to buy and breed their own pig. The years go by, their children emigrate. Ti Bastião and Ti Lobina, already old and weak, are replaced by new tenant farmers. Out of charity, and as long as they don’t make any trouble, the landlord lets them live in an old and dilapidated kitchen.

"With a direct, simple appearance, Histórias Selvagens contains a complex portrait of the living conditions in the historic village of Montemor-o-Velho. After his famous anthropological studies on populations organised via systems of community self-government (Vilarinho das Furnas and Falamos de Rio de Onor), in this film and for the first time in his filmography, Campos uses two stories by António Passos Coelho as his starting point to blur documentary and fiction, mise-en-scène and direct filming, professional actors and local residents, spontaneous and scripted dialogues, objective narration and poetic diction, individual stories and collective history in the exploration of a truer representation of the human condition."

Montemor-o-Velho, Beira Litoral. As cheias do rio Mondego são o flagelo da vida desta população. Ti Bastião e Ti Lobina, um casal de rendeiros que trabalha na criação de gado ao ganho - em compar- ticipação com o dono dos animais - decidem comprar e criar o seu próprio porco. Os anos passam, os filhos emigraram. Ti Bastião e Ti Lobina, já velhos e sem forças, são substituídos por novos rendeiros. Por caridade, e desde que não criem problemas, o senhorio deixa-os viver numa cozinha velha e degradada.
