Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Baria of the Comoro islands, who was born in Marseille. With her high school girlfriends she experiences the joys and tribulations tied to the insouciance of adolescence. And like them, she holds the secret hope that one day her prince will come. We, of the West, share such a hope, unaware that island tradition may completely shatter it.
How hard it is to discover that one has between pledged, before one's birth, to an unknown. In Marseilles, like in the Comoro Islands, all young girls dream of a big wedding. Baria will be married to her fiancé, Maoulida, who has been chosen by her family. She will belong to him in their village of Ouella, off the African Continent. He will spend all the money she has earned in France to secure his position as a person of influence and distinction in his country.
Can Baria escape her destiny ? In this a tale or a true story ? Documentary or fiction film ? No, it is cinema verity, woven through with the emotions of a young girl who thought she was free, but who lives torn between two cultures.
